Dog names: some original and creative ideas

In this article, you will find some useful tips to help you find an original and popular name for your dog!

With the arrival of a new canine family member, the stressful part is choosing the right name. Selecting the perfect dog name for the newcomer is not only important for you but even more for him.

Lots of pet parents draw inspiration for the name from their favorite movies, TV shows, and cartoon or from the pet physical appearance. The options are endless! Beware of the most common names, otherwise, you could find many namesakes at the park!
Keep in mind that whatever your final choice will be, the name should be related to something positive for the dog.

Along with the name, remember to choose promptly the identification tag for your four-legged friend, which is just as much important. In case of loss, your best friend has more chances to get back home safely if he's always wearing an ID tag with your phone number engraved.

Best tips for choosing the perfect name for your dog

In the headlong rush to search the perfect dog's name, you have to keep in mind few important rules that will help you and your four-legged friend:

  • It's better to opt for a short and clear name or one that could be shortened to a maximum of two syllables. Dogs don't recognize letters but recognize sounds, so a short and clear name will be easier for them to distinguish it from other sounds.
  • It's recommended to avoid names that sound like obedience words or command because your dog could easily get confused.
  • If you already have a pet, avoid giving to the newcomer the same name adding small changes such as Walt, Walt Junior, Walt The Second ect. Not only you will confuse the puppy, but you will also show him very little respect.
  • Once you have chosen the name, try to avoid as much as possible to mangle it, change it or use a lot of nicknames because your pet will have a hard time understanding you especially if it still trying to get used to his name.
